Dental Implants are a great advancement in dentistry as they permanently replace missing teeth in a way that no previous dental technique was able to accomplish. Implants are anchors made out of the strongest titanium materials, that are implanted into the bone and then covered with a cap or denture. They are stronger than a natural root and will never require a root canal or filling. An implant will help maintain the health and shape of the bone in the jaw area, and neighboring teeth do not need to be filed down to make room for it.
It is imperative that the dentist performing the implant be experienced and skilled in all the proper techniques of Implant dentistry. When done successfully, an implant will result in a comfortable and natural looking tooth, thereby providing a permanent solution to a missing tooth.
• To restore a permanent tooth or teeth where teeth have been lost
• To restore function
• To restore the aesthetics of a beautiful smile
• To replace teeth without having to damage adjacent teeth
• To replace partial and full dentures with “permanent” teeth which are not removed from the mouth
While dental implants are a viable option for most patients, case selection is very important in determining the long term success of the implants and the restorations. Dr.Johnson will conduct a comprehensive examination and determine whether the edentulous sites would be acceptable for implant placement. It is often necessary to take radiographs or 3-D scans to determine the density and the thickness of the implant site. In cases where bone density, thickness or height are inadequate, it is generally possible to augment bone levels by doing a procedure known as a bone graft. Bone grafts allow Dr. Johnson to thicken the bone and increase the level of bone at the implant site. After a period of healing, grafted sites generally serve as excellent implant sites.
The implant procedure:
After confirming the viability of the implant site, Dr. Johnson will prepare the site for the implant. This procedure, done under local anesthesia or with IV sedation, involves opening the gum drilling a small hole in the jawbone and placing the internal portion of the implant. In most cases, Dr. Johnson will suture the gum and allow the implant to integrate into the bone. Depending on the location of the implant, the integration process generally takes several months.
After the implant has fully integrated into the bone, Dr. Johnson will expose the implant, place a post into the implant body and fabricate a crown to fit that post. This crown is a permanent restoration which will either be screwed into the implant or cemented onto the post.
This procedure can be done for one tooth, multiple teeth or even a whole arch of teeth.
On occasion, Dr. Johnson may recommend an immediate load implant in which the teeth are placed on the implant either on the same day or within a very short period of time.
Either way, dental implants are the next best thing to having your missing teeth back. They are permanent restorations which do not need to be removed, they feel and function like natural teeth and they can restore the beautiful smile that you always wished for.
All on 4
All-on-4/Implant is a relatively new technique in the United States but has been done for many years with great success in Europe. This technique uses fewer implants that are placed at mechanical inclinations to maximize support. Fewer implants means lower cost. The use of angled implant placement allows us to avoid anatomical areas that previously required bone grafting. Eliminating the need for bone grafting saves months in healing and thousands of dollars. As compared to the Teeth-in-an-Hour procedure, there is no waiting for the surgical guide to be made. We could perform surgery on Monday and place teeth later the same day if you wish. The All-on-4/Implant option provides a comparable long term outcome to Teeth-in-an-Hour by allowing a solid base to attach teeth that does not have to be removed. All-on-4/Implant saves time and money and we are excited to make this option available to our patients.
All-on-4/Implant for edentulous jaws is an exciting treatment procedure that take advantage of the benefits of tilting posterior implants. This facilitates an optimal prosthetic support for a high pressure molded acrylic bridge that can be fabricated and functioning within just a few hours after surgery. The protocol utilizes a simple guide for predictable and optimal positioning of four implants (six implants, if necessary, in the maxilla).
All-on-4/Implant is based on Nobel Biocare's pioneering Immediate Function™ capability.
The All-on-4/Implant dental implant treatment is done in 1 phase:
- Tooth extraction (if required)
- Implant post placement
- Make and Fit Prosthetics on implant
With the All-on-4/Implant dental implant technique, teeth is extraction and the implant post placed during the same surgical visit. A fixed acrylic bridge is fabricated and functioning within 1 to 2 days after surgery. The timeline for All-on-4/Implant dental implants is thus completed within one trip. Patients are able to opt to have the acrylic bridge converted into a porcelain bridge at a later stage.
Why All-on-4/Implant Dental Implant Treatment
All-on-4/Implant dental implant treatment enables short treatment time
ease of transition in replacing poor prognosis to new function teeth
All-on-4/Implant dental implant treatments is suited for all bone quantities except for very severe restoration cases
